Homeowners & Renters' Insurance
Homeowners Insurance provides financial protection against disasters where your home is generally damaged. Home insurance typically covers the structure of your home and personal belongings you keep in your home. Please note flood insurance is not typically covered under this policy. If you are in an area where flooding may occur you may need to purchase an additional policy known as flood insurance. Please contact an agent for additional flood insurance information.
Renters Insurance written for those individuals who rent a house or apartment. Renters insurance will provide financial protection against loss or destruction of your personal possessions. While your landlord’s homeowners policy may cover the structure of the home this policy does not include the renters’ personal belongings. Renters insurance typically covers losses created by lightning, vandalism, theft, explosion, windstorm, and water damage (not including floods), etc.
Homeowner/Renter Tip:
Home Inventory is suggested for those with Home or Renters Insurance. Should you experience damage to your home, it's much easier to have a complete list of your belongings. View the items below to help you create your home inventory list.
- Start simple, if your just starting your inventory list it might be easier to start with recently purchased items progressing to older items. Your list should contain a description of each item, where it was purchased, make, model, and serial numbers. You should also include any sales receipts, purchase contracts, or appraisals.
- If your list includes such larger items like jewelry, art work, collectibles, or large dollar items you should be sure to check with your agent to make sure you have adequate coverage for your belongings.
- Along with your list you should take pictures of your belongings. Make sure to include any notes on or with the pictures as to what the item is and where it was purchased. You may even find it beneficial to take a few pictures of the rooms in the house/apartment.
- Another option would be to videotape your home and belongings. It's just like snapping pictures, except you can record your descriptions.
- A relatively new option is to use your personal computer. You can use the personal computer to contain your list as well as digital images or you can use personal finance software packages to complete room-by-room inventory.
- It is recommended that you store your list somewhere other than your home, such as a safe deposit box or other place for safekeeping. This list will help if you ever have any damage to your home. You will be prepared and have the information needed to provide to your Barengo agent.
- Remember when you purchase additional items it's easier to add them to your list when its fresh in your mind.
